INC.com - 10 Secrets of a Master Networker
I love INC.com articles and wisdom. The Ten Secrets of A Master Networker by Tahl Raz is an interesting vignette into a day in the life of a networking master. Now the key to success is defining the networking strategies that work best for you...
I was amused at Keith Ferrazzi's incredible ability to multitask through duplicate devices, systems and creating opportunity that shines for he and his networks. Some might think that "successful" masters have 2 or more devices ringing concurrently, that the only way to be successful is in collecting and building the largest possible network. Proactively caring about your network, evolving your capacity and skills, your community and connections is what a mastering networker can deliver naturally.
The real content of this article that sets you up for success are the practical rules for networking, most key is building a network naturally, in your style, and before you need it...
Yes You CAN create a network of diversity, potential and relationship annuity business. Technology will enable you to a point... Tools will transport you a bit further, but people build network potential. You can always create a rewarding network based upon a clear objective of what you need, and how you can help, coupled with a genuine interest in people and the power of community.
What works for me is focus on the great works and inspirations. I tend to take an approach of learning and networking as an opportunity or fun. I use networking to solve problems I am not an expert in.. I do not network to build connections for myself, I go in for the altruism of creating benefit for my networks. To quote the beautiful notion of Zig Ziglar: "You can help anyone in life get anything you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want".
Social networking has it's place and it's potential as a tool for expansion and clarity. Nothing, let me repeat NOTHING will replace the genuine activities-- those 20% activities foundation to relationships, and common understanding. If you are easy to reach, and tend to contribute to social networks that contain people you admire and learn from, and can connect with potential clients you can help, you have found a win win social network.
It is a matter of time before the Master Networker will put together the relationships, the tools, and the time management to deliver results. We need tools, filters, etc. We need to choose our time and clients, our time and networks carefully. Time is best spent on high value activities, who share your concern for results based networking.. They and you see potential and both are equally dedicated to the discovery.
