Greener Innovation for workers, environments, business

Many report having had such a bitter experience at the seeming decline of technological innovation and catering to big business. The problems of healthcare, jobs, the war and well, much of our environment seem bigger than life.. Some might think it all feels so big, and getting bigger, where shall one begin?

How often we must remember how related some of the smaller statistics that make a big big difference! Why talk about improving small business or creating job with such a complex taxation and earning system? We need not take an 'all or nothing' approach to our problem solving, and those looking at how to improve conditions in our nation are asking good questions, if they are listening to the answers as well! Let us encourage better dialogue, more representation, more good questions to be asked!

This is a rare blog into the relationship of healthcare, work environment, jobs availability, environmental consciousness, and productive business. As many of you know I am speaking out of particular belief that telecommuting initiatives are key to our nation's well being-- allowing people the ability to work from home can save office space, improve morale, and make a big difference on our environment. Small Business to Large Business should not overlook the cost savings of allowing established workforce to work from home. This was common practice for road warriors and sales force, because you could determine production requirements and manage agreements. Fact is a good many other jobs could establish production requirements, and offer valuable talent, that can work from where they are and bring their best selves to your workforce daily!

Small business makes up about 39% of the United States gross national product and produce two out of every three new jobs and produce innovations at a rate of two and one half times per employee when compared with large firms. They are hiring at a rate of 60-80% of the net new United States Jobs annually, spanning the last 10 years.

"Productivity is higher for people who telecommute." , says Rick Snyder, in a recent PC Magazine article on The Green Technology World Conference that started this week. On the week of September 11, a good many world citizens are thinking about why and how we work. Telecommuting is more than a casual luxury, and it's benefits are wider than the cost of gas! According to recent global telecommuting studies, the fact is, American business, despite it's mature networking capabilities and technologies, is lagging compared to other nations in our telecommuting adoption.. We can and should be looking to change that!

The State of Ohio recently renovated it's Small Business Loan Program to encourage small business aimed at positively affecting higher paying jobs within the state. Small businesses represents an underestimated foundation and strength to the United States economy. Small business ownership matters to the working class, and the health of our nation
employing half of all private sector employees, paying 45% of the total US Private Payroll.

I would like to see more companies and coalitions created around exploring the values of a mobile workforce. I would like to see this positively affect areas of our nation that have been horribly affected by jobs loss, and COULD be solved by simply allowing more telecommuting jobs where people are, rather than requiring them to fight traffic, to drive to work in a hierarchical cubicle land, where the appearance of looking busy outweighs the production of business value.

Small business makes up 41% of the High Tech Workers industry that employs scientists and engineering talent. In New Hampshire, the technology sector comprises over a third of their state's gross domestic product out of some 7% of their total workforce, the demand is great, but the perception to many is that they have to move to a technology hub for a better job. If our state's and our nation's income is thriving from a level of technology sector innovation, isn't it time we explored how to create the most loyal, flexible workforce and not force them to move to a traffic congested area to chase a dollar?

Small business has an interesting ability to influence green environmental strategies as well. Andrea Coombes of the Wall Street Journal , ran an article, on September 11 about the benefits to letting devoted workers, stay home. Small businesses are 53% home based. Now imagine the power of learning how to create policy that is good for the environment, good for the economy, and excellent for small business... That would work for a number of industries, if more small business coalitions were willing to share or explore the cost and investments of expansion nationwide from offices versus telecommuting.. We really need to rethink how we were, what we reward, and what we do. Why is it that so many people are happy and more productive? Loyalty, respect and dignity matter! Really!
