Facebook Friends on November 17, National UnFriend Day.

Today is it. Jimmy Kimmel declared today November 17 National UnFriend Day on Facebook.
Jimmy Kimmel:  Twitter  |   Facebook Event  |

Jimmy Kimmel talked about it on his show, and there is an Event on Facebook today, while a few hundred people dedicated a "LIKE" to it, many are really thinking about what it means to be a friend on Facebook
.
Official Guidelines for the event say its cleaning out people who are not friends
on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

It really requires us to think about what we value in our friends, getting rid of what you DON'T want to make room for what you do..  It is interesting to hear folks strategy for doing so..
  • some in the heat of rage at something said or done;
  • others deliberately planned and methodically executed.
  • others ache for those they will remove
  • some will be explained and quietly notified
  • others will be removed...

Heres the musical tribute from Jimmy Kimmel.. "To all, the Friends I've Un'ed Before"

FRIENDS: WHO DO YOU LOVE?   I am as interested in some friend of the friend stories:

Put this in comments to this UnFriend Day or provide a LINK to your National (in fact GLOBAL) Unfriend Day Strategy. Answer any or all of these.
  • Who's your "longest REAL LIFE FRIEND" whos in your friends list?
  • Who did you reconnect with in your REAL LIFE FRIENDS?
  • Who's your most admired VIP (Entertainer, Musician, Author, BusinessLeader) in your friends list?
  • Most celebrated news from your FB Friends?
  • Who are your "friends online becoming best friends forever"?
  • Who gave you your happiest Facebook Friend story?
FACEBOOK UNFRIENDS LIST:    We Can't Break Up, if We Never Even Said Hello.   So we know who you love.. What do you value?  Who would you unfriend from your friends list to make room for more people you do want... OR to just really FOCUS on the friends and experiences and moments you choose?

  • What type of person drives you CRAZY in your friends list?
  • What type of people do you just "delete" immediately no questions asked?
  • What was your craziest Facebook Fan story?
  • Has your "Friends" policy changed over time?

Dawn Christine Khan: I blogged my UnFriend Day Tale of the Tape today.

I am not looking for nor do I need an event-  I treasure friends.. Occaisionally I make room for what I dont want --- abusive, mean or nasty folks, to make room for more nice people, but I dont delete a friend for no reason and certainly not for a media event. You can find me on  Facebook.  I have many "friends" on Facebook that I value, and as an open networker, with rules,  I also like to make and meet new friends.  I help alot of people, and have a large global network so really only a fraction of my business network is on Facebook.

I maintain a Fans page where I highlight and introduce friends who inspire and enrich the lives of others and really shine in business and in life.. A Jobs and Career Success Group which is an open place for jobseekers and career professionals to connect.  HFCN is a business networking oriented page celebrating social networking companies and thought leaders.
